On a regular February morning, something extraordinary occurred.  West Jefferson Senior High School was visited by royalty. Zulu King George V. Rainey spoke to an audience of excited faculty staff and students. His reign is a historic one for the organization as the 87 year old King who founded the Lundi Gras festival is its oldest king. In addition, his granddaughter, Queen Kailyn Lilly Rainey is the youngest and the first Louisiana State University student to ever reign as Zulu’s Queen.

During his visit on February 2, 2019, King Zulu was greeted and entertained by the West Jefferson High School marching band. Dance performances from the very talented Young Audiences Dance Troupe set the scene for the special event.

The West Jeff Buccaneers thank King Zulu George V. Rainey and the Zulu organization for visiting and supporting the school. It helped the scholars appreciate their community and cultural heritages when important connections are made.
