Staff development does not end when the school year ends at West Jefferson High School. The faculty and staff have adopted an “all hands on deck” attitude when it comes to providing the best educational opportunities for their scholars.  Both teachers and administrators learn side by side how best to meet the needs of their students.

In addition to courses and learning opportunities offered outside of the district, all summer long, the teaching and administrative staff of West Jefferson High school attended various learning sessions through the Jefferson Parish Public School District that highlighted the features and best practices associated with the use of high quality materials of the Tier 1 curriculum.

The sessions which began in June and continued throughout the month of July offered its participants hands on experiences, opportunities to collaborate  with neighboring teachers and administrators from across the district, and real-time feedback from vendors to educators, and vice versa, in regards to how to best implement the use of the resources.

Leading by example, Principal Vanessa Brown-Lewis understood the importance of participating in the staff development sessions as she and some of WJHS teachers and administrators attended a Science Scope and Sequence training. She emphasized, “We realize that in order to facilitate academic excellence, all stakeholders must be a part of the learning process.”

Team West Jeff is leading the way to show that all hands are on deck when it comes to student achievement as teachers and administrators are learning together.
