On February 23, 2017, the faculty and staff of West Jefferson High School held West Jefferson’s first annual Career Day under Principal Mrs. Vanessa Brown-Lewis. As the day began, the school’s Leadership class and Key Club members worked alongside the faculty and staff to finish any last minute tasks needed. When the guest speakers arrived at school, the JROTC ushered them to the sign in and guided them through the school to the conference room. In the conference room the guest speakers were offered a light breakfast and refreshments as details of the day were explained to them. The speakers were assigned to hallways where they would rotate three times after thirty minute sessions per classroom. We are proud to say that over fifty speakers of different occupations were present. Of the fifty, the students were able to hear from an attorney, professors from universities, tattoo artists, a social worker, a realtor, engineers, college directors, members of the armed forces, and many more.

Testimonials:

Tychelle Causey: “The Historian was my favorite speaker because she got people to interact with her during her presentation and because she got kids interested in a profession they wouldn’t have thought about going into.”

Stephanie Reyes: “My favorite speakers was the Biological Scientist because she went in full detail on how things work by showing us videos, pictures, and posters. I was very shocked at how much they do for our environment. Also, the speaker made me realize how important taking care of our environment really is and how much damage we are doing to the earth by just littering.”
