Teen READ Week at West Jefferson’s Library Media Center was outstanding this year. Teen Read Week was observed October 10-15, 2016 with the theme Read for the Fun of It. On Monday, the students did not have to report to school, but were encouraged to do some reading for fun at home. On Tuesday, the students enjoyed book trailers highlighting the 2016-2017 book nominations for the Louisiana Teen Reader’s Choice Campaign. On Wednesday, there was a book talk conducted by Natalie Juneau who is teen librarian of Westbank Regional Library. Thursday, students and faculty alike were encouraged to share their favorite books and then take a picture holding their favorite to create their “Celebrity Read Posters”. Friday was the last day of fun where students played a library themed bingo and participated in a “Guess How Many” contest where they won fun prizes. There was great participation at all of the events. The placement of the Celebrity Read Posters throughout the campus featuring our students’ “heroes”, the faculty and staff, will be a constant motivation to “read for the fun of it”.
