The JPPSS did a three years long study involving Center for Restorative Approaches revolving around taking the punitive approach out of Student Services and creating a more restorative approach to Student Services. The goal was to reduce out of school suspensions and increase meaningful conversations following major events on campus events including parents, students, administrators, teachers and our Center for Restorative Approaches person, Jennifer Pagan.
Currently we have Jennifer Pagan– Center For Restorative Approaches Specialist onsite, Mr. Brown-Assistant Principal of Student Services, Ms. Menard-Dean of Student Services, Mr. Kennedy-French Teacher, Ms. Doroski-ESL Teacher, and Ms. Barry-Science Teacher who are all Facilitator Trained to service both the students and faculty here at West Jefferson High School. Staff wide training has also been provided to all teachers demonstrating the meaning and practices of Center for Restorative approaches.
Below is a link to an article that gives some background, describes the process, and also details what happens here at West Jeff. It’s a worthwhile read.
