Congratulations to West Jefferson High School’s Teacher of the Year, Kelly Barry. Ms Barry is a native of Detroit Michigan. She attended Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.  From there, she attended Tulane on a four-year academic scholarship. Ms. Barry graduated from Tulane with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She completed the TeachNola program, and began teaching at West Jefferson in the fall of 2012. She has taught Earth Science, Physical Science, and Biology. She also is involved with ABIT, PBIS, and the school’s Science club.

Ms. Barry’s is highly regarded by the school’s administration, faculty, staff, and most importantly, the students. Ms. Barry’s students describe her teaching style as engaging and hands-on. They appreciate her enthusiasm and they way she challenges them to think “outside of the box” when it comes to science and discovery.

When asked, what vision does she have for her students, she responded: “My vision for my students every year has been simple. I want them to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills, to learn about their own bodies, and to empower students to feel confident that they can choose any path in life.”

It is with “Buc Pride” that the West Jefferson High School Family recognizes Ms. Kelly Barry as West Jefferson High School’s Teacher of the Year.
